Rosey

I’m dreaming of Wade lying next to me, kissing me. I can feel his lips on mine, the dream is so real. He is slowly taking his shirt off, all the while telling me that he is going to pleasure me. He moves his hand to my special spot. I close my eyes. I can feel the tenderness of his kisses and stroke of his hand.

“Rosey,” he whispers, and the whisper tickles my ear. He presses his lips over mine again. My body feels like it is under a spell—lethargic and heavy. I fight to pull myself up toward his kisses.

“Wade.” I wrap my arm around his neck and pull him closer. He feels so warm. But something is pulling on my arm and there is a beeping that is starting to annoy me.

I open my eyes. I’m looking right at Wade, but behind him, I don’t recognize the ceiling.

“Rosey, thank god you’re awake.” Wade breathes a sigh of relief.

“What do you mean ‘thank god you’re awake’?” I look around. “And where am I?”

“A stand of tower lights fell on you.” My breath catches and I remember the push of the crowd and the lights falling toward me. Then pain, and nothing. I wince. My whole body aches, from my nose right down to my toes.

“We’re at General Hospital.” His hand cups my cheek. “You’ve been unconscious for about four hours.”

“Am I okay?” It seems like a weird question, but suddenly I’m concerned. Really concerned. He squeezes my hand.

“They’ll have to run some more tests now that you’re awake, but all the other tests have come back alright. You should be fine, but I want to make sure.” He smiles down at me. His confidence reassures me that everything will be okay.

“You’ve been here this whole time?”

“I couldn’t leave you here.” He strokes my fingers. I look down and see that there’s an IV in the crook of my elbow. That must have been what I felt tugging at my arm.

“But where are my roommates? They were at the club, too.” I imagine they are really worried about me.

“They weren’t allowed in your room,” he says and lifts my chin with his finger so we are looking each other in the eyes. “Only family is allowed in patient rooms.”

He seems like he’s waiting for me to say something, but I don’t know what to say. “Oh, I didn’t know that. I’ve never been in the hospital before.” I lean back and look down at myself again. I’m wearing one of those terrible hospital gowns, and I can see that there are some cuts and bruises along my arms. I look at the clock, it’s just past four a.m. If Wade’s been here the entire time, he must not have gotten any sleep tonight. I look up at him, he doesn’t look tired, though. Wait. A. Minute.

“Did you just say only family is allowed in the rooms?”

“Yes, I did. I told the EMTs I was your fiancé so I could ride in the ambulance with you.
